You may remember an earlier article about the possible security issues surrounding the iPhone, wherein hackers could potentially gain access to the personal information stored on the phone or use that information to spread spam. While there have been no reported cases of any problems with the security of the iPhone, testing by a security company raised the concern of potential problems. Nonetheless, Apple decided to quickly respond to these concerns by releasing a software patch that address these security issues and bugs. Although the vulnerability was only a theory, this recent patch will make it harder for potential criminals to target the iPhone.

In a prepared statement, Apple spokeswoman Jennifer Bowcock said, "One of the great things about iPhone is that we can easily deliver software updates and bug fixes through iTunes when necessary." That is definitely a nice plus in my opinion.

So far, we have not succumbed to the lure of the iPhone, although it is getting harder and harder to resist the "cool factor" of it. This is especially true for my husband who has co-workers that own the device.

One thing I am really waiting for, before seriously considering an iPhone purchase, is a resolution to the battery problem. The iPhone battery has a short working life, and replacement can get very expensive. Not only is there the cost of the battery itself, but the fact that the battery can not easily be replaced by the owner. The entire iPhone must be taken in by Apple's repair service for a battery replacement. Meanwhile, if a replacement phone is needed during the interim, well one may be available but for an added cost.

The battery issue has sparked a class action lawsuit in Chicago against both Apple and its exclusive American service provider, AT&T alleging that the companies failed to properly disclose both the replacement costs of the battery and the limited life of the battery.
