Apple Upgrades the iPhone and iTouch

Apple has upgraded the iPhone with a new capacity. In addition to the 8GB iPhone for $399, there is also now a 16GB iPohone with a retail price of $499. When the iPhone was first released, in came in the 4GB version and the 8GB version. Apple then decided to discontinue the 4GB capacity iPhone and cut the price on the 8GB version. Apple feels that while consumers are looking for an iPhone with more than 4GB, that there is still plenty of room in their hearts for the 8GB.

The Apple iPod Touch is also upgraded to a higher capacity. Consumers can now purchase a 32GB iPod touch for $499, giving users a lot more room for music and videos. The iPod Touch also comes in two other versions, an 8GB model for $299 and 16GB model that sells for $399.

Also coming with the new iPod Touch and the iPhone is new software that was just recently unveiled at MacWorld. The software allows users to have the ability to edit the home screen. It also provides a way to triangulate your position using maps.

Coming in late February is the anticipated release of a software developer's kit for the iPhone and the iPod Touch, which opens up both devices for third party software.

Rumor has it that a 3G iPhone is in the works and will be available to the public sometime late in this year, perhaps just in time for the holiday season. According to Stece Jobs, the two reasons that the iPhone does currently have 3G is because the chip takes up a lot of space and would make the iPhone larger, and the chip eats up a lot of battery life. Hopefully, the two problems will be solved before the release.
