Still not sure what to name your baby? Let the Internet help with these wonderful and free web sites.

When we were expecting our first child, we picked the name Emma for a girl. Of course, he turned out to be a boy, so we tables the name for later. When our second child was born, a girl, we still loved the name Emma, but in the years that has passed, we found out just how popular the name had become. It seemed that there were Emma's everywhere. My son's preschool class had three Emmas out of seven girls. Now we were at a loss. We really wanted something that was a bit less popular.

That is when we turned to online baby name sources. Unlike baby name books, these sites are frequently updated with the latest trends and creative names. Many will even put together a name for you based on your likes and dislikes, ethnic background, religious considerations, geographical location and more.

Here are some of my favorite websites that help parents choose the perfect name.

Baby Name Voyager

Go straight to Baby Name Wizard (http://www.babynamewizard.com/) and click on the Baby Name Voyager if you want to experience something truly different when searching for baby names. Start with a single letter and take off. You can see rankings for a particular name throughout history. For example, I could see that in the year my daughter was born, her name ranked 97. In the 1890s, the name was at a low 410. Emma, on the other hand was the number 2 girl's name when my daughter was born.

BabyNames.com

This is a comprehensive website (http://www.babynames.com/) that has a lot of fun features. From celebrity baby names to information and advice about selecting a name, you are sure to find some favorites here. Check out the cool names list. You can also look up a name to see the meanings behind the name, its origins and even its country of origin if applicable. You'll also see a list of songs that include the name. My daughter's name appears in songs by the Beatles and Nirvana, among other groups. This is a cool feature if you want to sing to your infant or create a song list or compilation.
