The Marriage Blog Week in Review for December 3-9

It’s that time of year…the busy time. (Busier than usual anyway.) Find you have limited time to keep up on all the blogs you want to read? That’s what makes Week in Reviews invaluable. They’re your key to staying in tune with what Karri, Heather, and I wrote about last week in the Marriage blog. Monday, December 3 All I Want for Christmas… Since Heather and her family were assaulted with health problems throughout the year, all she wants is to enjoy her work at Families.com without anymore trips to the doctor interrupting it! For Men Who Do Not Wear … Continue reading

Create Bands

Have you always thought you could be a producer? With this fun website, you can try your hand at creating your own band. Create A Band is a nice little diversion for both adults and kids. When you get to the website, you must choose a name for your band. Go ahead and get creative, the weirder the better, I think. Some names that come to mind are Frizzy Ends, Plumber Joe and The Crackers, Wet Dog, and Where’s the TP? But that is just a typical day around here. (Just kidding, we don’t even have a dog.) After you … Continue reading

The Marriage Blog Week in Review for Jan 20-26

Good morning, if you noticed a curious lack of the marriage blog week in review, I have to plead guilty. I wrote most of it, but yesterday, my daughter had a birthday party and we went out together to attend. It was a roller skating party and for those of you who follow my fitness blog posts, you know that my daughter and I have been roller-skating a great deal frequently, well we enjoyed ourselves roller-skating, but I was whipped after an hour and half on the skates and my legs felt like spaghetti. I’ll talk more about that in … Continue reading

Scrapbooking Blog Introductions

Hi! My name is Crystal and I have the pleasure of sharing two of my greatest passions with you – my family and scrapbooking – on the Families.com scrapbooking blog. I’ve been avidly scrapbooking since 2000 documenting my amazing husband and two adorable daughters. I love learning new techniques and sharing them with others. One of my closest friends, Lisa, is my partner on the scrapbooking.families.com blog. We have been friends since 2000 as well. Our husbands went to grade school, junior high and high school together. They were reunited while tending our respective daughters, who are 3 months apart, … Continue reading

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints View of Family

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has its own view of what a family is. This is described in a proclamation to the world that was issued by the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve Apostles in 1995. Here is what it said: We, THE FIRST PRESIDENCY of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. IN THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit … Continue reading

Men and Women Are from Earth

A study came out recently in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology: “Men and Women Are from Earth: Examining the Latent Structure of Gender.” The central hypothesis of the paper is that men and women actually aren’t all that different.  Many of the differences that we might demonstrate have more to do societal expectations than inherent biology. This isn’t the first study on the subject.  I recently read the book “Delusions of Gender: How Our Minds, Society, and Neurosexism Create Difference,” by neuroscience psychologist Cordelia Fine.  In it she exposes noticeable trends in male vs. female psychology, both in … Continue reading

Fun with Leftovers

My dad’s New Year’s resolution is to kick his addiction to caffeine.  So far, he hasn’t had a drop of coffee in all of 2013.  Since my mom is a tea drinker, my parents’ coffee maker has been sitting idle since the last day of 2012.  What’s more, since my dad has gone cold turkey, he no longer needs his seemingly endless supply of paper coffee filters. Rather than be tempted by the white basket-shaped filters, my dad shipped them 5,000 miles to our home, which is filled with non-coffee drinkers.  We don’t even own a coffee maker.  Needless to … Continue reading

MyMagic+ to Record Disney Guest Experience

Disney’s always looking for a way to get ahead in its parks, including providing the best customer service around. Its constant raising of prices might seem counter intuitive to that, but at least it keeps upgrading its services.  The New York Times has a fascinating new report on the Disney Parks’ latest effort: MyMagic+. MyMagic+ takes the physical form of a wristband park guests wear in place of tickets.  Guests won’t have to trade in paper tickets anymore, instead waving their bands in front of the new FastPass monitors (even if they didn’t purchase a FastPass, those Mickey monitors are used).  MyMagic+ … Continue reading

Me Focused

A marriage needs to be nurtured.  It requires sacrifice, giving and selflessness.  But it can’t always be “other focused.” You see, if all of your efforts go into pleasing your spouse, its going to cause burnout or possibly bitterness.  This means that just as important as it is to take care of your spouse and your marriage, you need to take care of yourself. A failure to take care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually won’t make you a better marriage partner.  You are more likely to struggle with fatigue, depression, irritability and lots of other not-so-pleasant qualities that can … Continue reading
