Disney at E3 and Other Video Games Update

A Kinect demo booth at this year’s E3 The E3 Video Game exhibition might be over now, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to stop talking about all we learned about upcoming video games. Put E3 up there for me with other conventions, like Comic Con and the D23 Expo, that I’d love to attend one day. XBox 360 Price Slash

Microsoft announced yesterday that it will be slashing the price of its Xbox 360 video game unit in the United States. The reduced prices will take effect tomorrow, August 8th. The price cut will bring the Xbox 360 down by close to 13 percent, with the Premium model selling for $350, a $50 difference. The core unit, which doesn’t include a hard drive, will sell for $280, a $20 difference, and the Elite model will sell for $450, a difference of $30. Disney is Coming to XBox

This week, Microsoft announced that it has worked out a deal with Disney for its online download system. This means that select Disney movies will be available for download through the online video game service. The movies will all be available in high definition to subscribers of Microsoft’s Xbox Live service. Among the choices for Xbox owners are the big hits, “Aladdin” and “Armageddon.” The announcement was made by a corporate vice president in Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division, Peter Moore. Disney Expanding Video Game Investment

Video games are an expanding market that generates billions of dollars in revenue. The Walt Disney Company announced that they plan to triple the amount of money they invest in the development of new video games. The market is a wealth of opportunity for the entertainment giant and they have long produced video game titles in companionship to their feature film releases from Meet the Robinsons to Pirates of the Caribbean and more. PlayFirst Downloadable Computer Games

If you haven’t checked out the offerings from PlayFirst, you definitely should. They are a homegrown software company with a reputation for building fun downloadable arcade -type computer games. The games that they offer are all very family friendly with rules that are simple to learn. My six-year-old son enjoys playing them, and they are teaching him not only a wicked sense of eye-hand coordination but also how to place priorities on different tasks.
