Microsoft and Google Battling over Vista

It is well known that Microsoft and Google are far from best buddies. The two companies have been rivals for some time. Microsoft wants what Google has: the largest share of the search engine pie, and Google wants Microsoft to stay out of its space. There have been ongoing rumors about Microsoft purchasing Yahoo in order to achieve its goals. Microsoft says that it doesn’t need to buy Yahoo in order to compete with Google. The latest saga in this war has to do with the Vista operating system and its built-in search engine. Google accuses Microsoft of unfair practices, … Continue reading

Make Christmas Photo Collages

I am far from a computer whiz; however, after viewing an eye-popping photo collage on one of my favorite websites, I was inspired to create one on my own using my trusty PC. Before you begin the process of creating amazing collages from ordinary pictures, you need to select the appropriate software. There are a number of websites that offer the software for free while others allow you to use their programs during a trial period. I highly recommend PictureCollagesSoftware.com. It is an outstanding all-in-one photo collage program that caters to beginners. I especially appreciate that it features hundreds of … Continue reading

Staying Connected With Family Newsletters

Families don’t seem to have the same connections today as they did in the past. I’m certain that we can blame our hurried 21st century lifestyle for a lot of this. However, if you are looking for a way to keep your family connected, you may want to consider beginning a family newsletter. Family newsletters typically include things such as current happenings (births, weddings, deaths, etc.), family recipes, photos, contact information, and upcoming events. It may also be fun to spotlight a different family member in each issue. Ask your family members to send you information they would like to … Continue reading

New Cuil Search Engine Launched. Is it Good?

Big wigs at Google and IBM have launched a new search engine out of Menlo Park that promises to revolutionize searching on the web. As I write this, the engine claims to have indexed almost 122 billion different websites. It gets its results by ranking pages on content and relevance instead of popularity metrics. I took a look at the search engine today. I absolutely love the snazzy format. Instead of boring and unintuitive links with basic lines of text, you get these little paragraph like boxes of text that come complete with a photo or other image. The description … Continue reading

Does Shutting Off Your PC Daily Shorten It’s Life?

One of the greatest technology debates is not about cell phones causing cancer or Yahoo versus Google, but something more domestic. Does shutting down a PC on a daily basis shorten its life? Do you have to compromise saving energy for the health of your computer? Here is the answer. This question comes up so very frequently, although not usually as a question. There are users on both sides who adamantly believe (and share) that it is better to either leave your computer on all of the time or shut it down when you aren’t actively using it. The pro … Continue reading

Kids Web Menu

This free program helps parents keep their children, even ones as young as two, safe on the web. Kids Web Menu 1.4 is an interface that you can install for use on your Windows PC. The software works by limiting children to visiting only pre-approved websites. Parents can choose what websites the kiddies can visit, and password protect their selections. Once running, the interface cannot be minimized (parents can click in a special area to get out of the program), so the little ones can’t go browsing around the computer. The manufacturer promises that kids can play online without any … Continue reading
