My First School Field Trip

Today I went on my first field trip as a mom. We went to the Mobile Ballet to see the Nutcracker. Initially the principal was unsure if the kindergarten class would be allowed to attend. She didn’t think they would sit still for such a long production. At the last minute she decided to let them go but asked as many parents to attend as possible. Unfortunately with most parents working during the day this was not possible. In Tyler’s class I was the only parent along with the foster grandmother, who comes everyday. The computer teacher also helped out … Continue reading

This Isn’t A One Room School House Kind of Thing – Virtual Learning and Umbrella Schools

In my last blog I introduced some of the options available to homeschoolers who choose to incorporate religious beliefs into their curriculum and the different mediums that are available for the presentation of this material. Men Don’t Nag

One of the interesting things here in the Marriage Blog is that Dale and I often find ourselves thinking about the same things. I was just about to write a post about nagging, when Dale beat me to it! This is a good thing, because it really helped me to think about the issue a little more. Dale made some great points about nagging. Many studies have shown that nagging doesn’t work. The person being nagged tends to tune it out, and the person nagging doesn’t really believe that things will change, even if she can’t stop nagging. Yes, notice … Continue reading

How Facebook Could be Bad for Your Marriage

Facebook can be a great networking tool to keep in touch with current friends and re-establish contact with old ones. But there are several ways that Facebook could actually be bad for your marriage. Here are some examples. You Spend Too Much Time on It Facebook can be addicting. There are so many messages, status updates, photos, videos, games, quizzes and applications (what is a sea garden anyway?) to occupy your time. YouTube Christmas House Tours

Going on Christmas house tours are lots of fun. Not only can you enjoy beautiful decorations and furnishings, but you can get some ideas for decorating your own home. Just this past weekend, we visited a room that was a early century library, all decorated for Christmas. I loved pretty much every part of it and joked that I was taking my photos so we could reproduce the room at home. Of course, the high ceiling and the friezes might present a bit of a problem, but you get the idea. While visiting homes in person is always nice, it … Continue reading
