National Geographic Kids Website

I really love really good education website for kids. Not only do they offer a learning environment, but they do it in such a way that is so much fun. My kids don't even realize they are learning. In fact, they beg for time on the computer to "play" on these websites.

Of course, I always play with them, and I am happy to say that with the National Geographic Kids website, I find myself learning a lot, too.

Did you know, for example, that scientists have recently discovered yet another planet? Or that there is a type of goat that faints? It is all really interesting stuff.

Let me give you just a little background. I am a sort of pseudo home-schooler. My oldest goes to school and will be starting first grade in the fall. But from the time he was little, I have been seeking out regular learning opportunities, following lessons in workbooks and more. I think that there is so much my kids can learn at home as well as in school, but that is a topic for another blog. I only mention it because I think this National Geographic Kids site is one that can be used to design a good part of a science and geography curriculum.

The design of the website is amazing. It is bright without being cutsey, well organized and clear. There is a lot of content, from learning videos, to craft activities, to interactive games that teach things such as logic and spatial relationships. And of course, there are the usual stories and polls. There is a world of animals to explore, as well as at least of of your child's favorite characters.

There are some more sophisticated aspects of the website, too, such as an interactive vacation planner that is just right for the summer, as well as a way to organize all of the stuff you are learning.

Whether you have kids or are just curious about the world, you won't regret checking out this website!
