Podcasts – The Basics

Podcasting. It’s one of those internet buzz words. Everybody talks about it. But what is Podcasting? Podcasting is a way to distribute over the internet audio or video files using RSS or Atom Syndication. The file could be a professional radio program, a music video, or your own internet radio show. Just like you can listen to the “radio” on the “radio” with podcasting you have a “podcast” of a “podcast”. It means both the delivery method as well as the content. The underlying syndication technology was available in the early 2000’s but started to become extremely popular around 2004. … Continue reading

The Writer’s Almanac – Podcast Review

The Writer’s Almanac is one of my favorite podcasts. It’s a short one, usually lasting somewhere around five minutes. Every day Garrison Keiller fills the listener in on literary and historical notes. The history may be about events that happened on this date in history, or about the reasons we celebrate certain holidays. The literary history is often interesting facts about authors, where they grew up, former jobs, inspiration, and awards their works have won. Usually it is about authors born on this date. After the brief historical notes, Garrison Keiller reads a poem or two. It’s such a treat … Continue reading

How Do You Podcast?

This morning during some random web surfing I came across an “official podcasting kit” for sale on the Internet for around $300. The kit included some decent podcasting software and a studio quality USB microphone. I was first appalled at the price of the kit, considering I think I can create pretty decent podcasts using the included software on my computer and my $15 microphone from Target. The more I think about it, the more sense it made. Podcasts have become more and more popular in recent years; to a point that I think they could legitimately be a “job” … Continue reading

Disney Electronics Expanding

When it comes to children’s electronics, we see some great changes on the horizon. For instance, Disney is now expanding electronics with new products specific to the Mix Stick MP3 players. Today, these players are ranked among the top 10 so this is big news. For around $100, you can purchase the Happiest Place on Earth for the Mix Max portable media player. If you prefer, you can choose other versions to include an upgrade for around $50 and a miniature version for $20. If you are looking for a portable media player so your children can enjoy movies, television … Continue reading

MormonMomCast: A Great Podcast

I recently learned about a great podcast for LDS women called MormonMomCast. A podcast is like a radio show that you can download and listen to whenever you want. (Here is a link to learn more about podcasts.) The podcast talks about the gospel and life in general. The three hosts are all LDS moms. I was really excited as I listened to this podcast. I really enjoyed listening to the comments that all three ladies made. I asked the host Whit Larson to do a little interview, and I’m posting it here today. You should check out the podcast. … Continue reading

Bill Phillips’ Transformation Station

I recently discovered the joys of podcasts. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard the word “podcast”. You may not have had the time to look into podcasts and what they can bring into your life though. (Like television, podcasts can add to your life or waste your time, depending upon which ones you listen to.) Taking the Body for Life Challenge is good for me, but it isn’t easy. One thing that is really helping me stay motivated is Bill Phillips’ Transformation Talk, a weekly radio show aired on Sirius Satellite Radio. If you don’t subscribe to … Continue reading

Podcasting – Using iTunes to find and listen

Now that we have gone into the basics of what a podcast is and what some of the terminology means in my first article. We can now look at how you can find a podcast and then listen to it. In preparing this article I looked at what is out there for podcatching software and there is quite a lot, let me tell you. I have used one or two in the past but when Apple released a version of iTunes that already had a very large directory of podcasts that played right there in the media player you already … Continue reading
