The device is designed to read your pictures off of your digital cameras memory card and store them. The enclosure has a 40GB hard drive, making it possible to save tons of pictures before you would ever need to remove any. I have actually thought about buying one of these, or something like it to go along with my digital camera. While I hardly take 40GB of pictures while I'm out and about I will often take near a GB or more while I'm on vacation. An extra external hard drive could be great for saving photos and clearing off my memory cards without having to tote around my laptop on every vacation to download pictures. Typically external hard drives like this one by Polaroid connect to your computer through USB, so you have the option of downloading the pictures to your computer later on if you decide you want to. How do you store your photos? Right now I upload all of my photos to my computer. I will typically clear them off periodically, burning them on to a DVD disc. DVD's will typically hold 4.7 GB of data which is plenty to hold all of my pictures from a particular month, trip, or topic. I have a DVD wallet where I keep all of the DVDs for reference later on. For the most part I find that I don't go back to old pictures, but they're there should I ever need them. I think I may have gone back to the DVDs four of five times since I started archiving. Would you consider buying an external hard drive for your pictures, or do you think storing them on your computer is just fine?
