YouTube Roundup: Amazing Robots

I’m fascinated by all of those household robots that promise to do everything from make toast to hand wash the dishes. Here is a round up of some of the most interesting, scary or fascinating YouTube videos of household robots. Readybot gets put through its paces as a kitchen helper. Set to peppy music the Readybot opens a can of soup, grasps and moves dishes around and scrapes garbage off of the counter. To watch the Readybot, click here. This next video scares me a bit. In it, a very humanoid-type service robot pours a cup of water and then … Continue reading

Ask a Homeschooling Blogger: Why Are You So Against Government Intervention? Part 4

Note: As I have explained in the first blog in this series yesterday, I have received an e-mail that I think articulates the opinions of many who do not home school and don’t understand why those of us who do might see government intervention as a bad thing. I generally ignore these letters because they are often riddled with poor language and have clearly not been thought out. For the original question in part, please see the first blog. This is a continuation of my response. My Agenda Against Hilary and What I’m “Hiding” I have never sat to tea … Continue reading

Reuse Egg Cartons and Save

This morning I was making a large batch of egg muffin sandwiches. My husband asked for more things to take to work for breakfast and English muffins were on sale this week. Of course, I wound up with a couple of empty egg cartons when I was done, which got me thinking about how they can be reused to save money and the environment. All of these ideas will do both, save yourself or someone else money and prevent the egg cartons from winding up in the trash. Of course, they can be recycled, too, but wouldn’t it be nice … Continue reading

You Cannot MAKE Them Work Hard

Motivation and inspiration can be tricky things when it comes to how we parents can inspire out children to do the things we think they should. I remember before I became a parent how I assumed that I would be able to mold and make my children into the people I thought they should be. I was definitely one of those people (and only childless people truly believe this) who would say things like “My children are going to…” and “I’ll make sure that my kids…” In reality, we parents do the best we can but our children do not … Continue reading

Uncomfortable Feelings on the Job

Wouldn’t it be great if every day was all sunshine and dollar signs in our home businesses? Wouldn’t it be fantastic if our customers contributed to our feeling good and if running a home business meant getting rid of all those discomforts and frustrations that came with the more traditional job of working for someone else? The fact is, that while we might get rid of some of those discomforts and realities that plagued us when we worked for someone else, there are still going to be times when our work is anything but sunshine and dollar signs. Our home … Continue reading

Short Circuit (1986)

“Short Circuit” is the 1986 smash hit about a robot that was built to be a weapon of war. He’s number five of five, and he’s programmed to hone in on enemy targets and destroy them with a laser. His creator, Newton Crosby (Steve Gutenberg) is a man of science who doesn’t leave much room in his life for miracles, but when Number Five is hit by lightning, that’s exactly what happens – a miracle. Once a bucket of bolts, Number Five is now alive. Accidentally finding his way out of the laboratory, he ends up at a remote farmhouse … Continue reading
