Want A Facial Massage? Ask A Robot

Like something out of a science fiction movie or the Jetsons, robots have now been called into service to give facial massages. Researchers in Japan have developed a robot that was specifically designed to give a therapeutic facial massage to patients in hospitals and spas across the country. The creators, located at Tokyo’s Waseda University hope to see the robot employed first for patients with jaw-related medical problems and then later for beauty and relaxation massages for the general public. The robot was also developed with Japan’s Asahi University. The robot, dubbed the WAO-1 robot, or the Waseda Asahi Oral … Continue reading

Short Circuit (1986)

“Short Circuit” is the 1986 smash hit about a robot that was built to be a weapon of war. He’s number five of five, and he’s programmed to hone in on enemy targets and destroy them with a laser. His creator, Newton Crosby (Steve Gutenberg) is a man of science who doesn’t leave much room in his life for miracles, but when Number Five is hit by lightning, that’s exactly what happens – a miracle. Once a bucket of bolts, Number Five is now alive. Accidentally finding his way out of the laboratory, he ends up at a remote farmhouse … Continue reading

Reusable Camera Pill

Take one of these and I’ll look at your insides in the morning. Well, not quite, but science fiction just got a little closer, thanks to a new tiny camera pill that can be swallowed like a common pain killer. The camera pill is ultra affordable, only $300 and can be used over and over again. Compare this cost to a standard exploratory scope that costs $5,000, or a previously invented camera pill (in 2000 by an Israeli team) that could only be used once, since it travelled all the way through the digestive system and well, emerged a bit … Continue reading
